Harri István Mäki
As a child, Harri drew cartoons about ghosts, monsters, castles and sailing ships. And he wanted to be an explorer.
These ingredients have developed into one of Finland's most prolific writers and illustrators.
"The best thing about being a writer and illustrator is inventing! Absolutely. Getting into the characters. Living in the midst of intrigue. Struggling with language. This is the profession of an inventor. You get to feel like a child every day: reinventing your world over and over again. It makes you happy and humble and curious."
Thanks to Harri István Mäki's Hungarian mother, Harri's surroundings were never short of castles and fortresses, and there was plenty to marvel at both in his Hungarian grandmother's house and in Finland. Today, Harri lives in Ylöjärvi and works extensively in Pirkanmaa.
“Curiosity is like a stone thrown into water - it goes straight to the bottom. As a writer, I jump into the water hole and follow the stone’s journey.”
