Our Summer Market Tour
Our small exhibition and sales department travels to markets and events during the summer. We have now had 18 events on Jussi's Day and before the summer ends we will set up the sales tent at least another 18 times.
This week the destination is Aura's evening market on Tuesday and Säkylä's market on Thursday. Next week the Tampere monthly market on Monday.
During Midsummer week, we visited Turku Market Square and Yläne Market Square. The opening of the summer was the Tampere May Day market, followed immediately by the Leppävaara Suurtori and the Maalaistentori in Helsinki's Hakaniemi Market Square. The highlight of the summer so far has been the Nuutajärvi Day at the Nuutajärvi Glass Village, with its knife competition, and the Urjala Friday markets.
Trips to the market are always quite a "thing". I start driving around six in the morning at the latest. The trip is almost always really great, even though it's a bit tiring, you can see many different animals and natural phenomena. For example, on the way to the Uusikaupunki Merefest I saw the bravest moose of my life.
It takes a couple of hours to set up the tent, and then you have to make sure it doesn't rain and the wind doesn't blow over 6 m/s. That's the absolute limit of suitability. In stronger winds, paintings fly and even books are hard to keep in place.
Fortunately, I also meet a wide variety of people, so the stress of the circumstances is forgotten. In addition to the actual customers, many passersby get to show their children the cows and calves. The need for information is great. "I didn't know horses could have horns" has been the best - or worst - comment I've heard.
Although the bigger events are known many weeks in advance, most of the market places are chosen quite spontaneously. Mainly because of the weather. We go where the sun is more likely to shine and the wind is calm. The goal is to visit Tampere, Helsinki and Turku at least three times during the summer and also the active markets in Southern Finland at least once during the summer.
